# `lxc project demote-replica`

Demote project to standby mode for replication

## Synopsis

Description:
Demotes the project to standby mode for replication.

The project must have replica.cluster config set to identify which cluster can replicate to it, unless –force is specified.

If a leader cluster was promoted with –force, it is possible that replication back to a standby can fail with a “split-brain” error. Demote the standby again to resolve the failure.
